Drake Loses $300,000 Bet on Canadian Football Team

Drake Loses 0,000 Bet on Canadian Football Team

Canadian rapper Drake has been backing his own team in the Copa America series, including a big bet on Tuesday’s semifinal match against Argentina and Lionel Messi. He placed a $300,000 bet on Canada coming out on top, and would have won almost $2.9 million if that happened.

Canada surprised many with its deep showing in the best men’s soccer tournament involving national teams from North and South America, but Argentina were the odds-on favorites, entering the tournament at -125 odds.

In contrast, Canada started the series at +2500, but advanced to the semifinals with a win against Peru, a draw against Chile, and a win on penalties against Venezuela. Ultimately, Argentina’s squad proved too much, advancing to the finals with a 2-0 win, with goals from Messi and Julian Alvarez.

This meant a six-figure loss for Drake.

Argentina will play the winner of Wednesday’s match between Uruguay and Colombia, with the final set for Sunday. But despite a match looming, the team did give the rapper some pushback by posting a message on Twitter that referenced a diss track released by Kendrick Lamar in May criticizing the rapper.

Drake has been known for some big sports bets over the years, including betting $1 million on Argentina winning the 2022 World Cup, but he still lost his bet when the match went to overtime and ended in penalties. This is considered a draw in traditional football betting. He also lost $275,000 on UFC’s Jorge Masvidal to beat Colby Covington.

Drake has previously won $559,000 on Super Bowl bets on the Rams to win and Odell Beckham Jr. to score. Another $159,000 bet on the Golden State Warriors to finish atop the NBA Western Conference yielded a handsome $650,000 return.
