VIJAYAWADA: Minister for Water Resources Development Nimmala Ramanaidu said that every effort is being made to fully meet the irrigation and drinking water needs of the people.

Ramanaidu released water into Krishna Delta at the East Delta Head Regulator of Prakasam Dam on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “With effective management of water resources, wealth can be created on a large scale, benefiting all sections of the society and leading to prosperity of the state.”

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has foresightedly implemented the Pattiseema lift irrigation project with the aim of drawing Godavari water and delivering it to around 13 lakh acres of land in the Krishna delta and also quenching the thirst of 30-40 lakh people.

Steps are being taken to develop Pattiseema, Tadipudi, Purushothapatnam and Pushkara lift irrigation projects, which were neglected by the previous YSRC regime.

About 6,500 cusecs of water is being drawn from Pattiseema for the Krishna delta. With the release of water, it will be possible to irrigate 7,38,000 acres of land in the eastern delta and fill the tanks in 11 Assembly constituencies of NTR, Krishna and Eluru districts to quench the thirst of the people, he said. Minister for Housing, Information and Public Relations Kolusu Parthasarathy, underlining the importance of drainages along with irrigation channels for the development of the agriculture sector, said that the people of the Krishna delta were facing serious problems due to poor maintenance of channels during the previous YSRC regime. He noted that while Rs 4,000 crore was spent during the TDP period, the previous regime did not even spend Rs 50 crore on the Chintalapudi lift irrigation project, which is vital for the upland areas of Nuzvid, Mylavaram and Tiruvuru.

Minister of Mines and Geology Kollu Ravindra expressed his gratitude for solving the drinking water problem in Krishna Delta as well as providing irrigation water for Kharif crops.
