Women’s Tennis Signs Leigh Van Zyl

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University women’s tennis team announced that transfer Leigh van Zyl has been added to the program for the upcoming 2024-25 season. Van Zyl will join the Green Wave with two years of eligibility remaining.

A native of Paarl, South Africa, van Zyl spent the past two seasons playing at Clemson University. He has 24 singles wins and 20 doubles wins in his first two collegiate seasons with the Tigers. He tied for the team lead with 19 singles wins last year, including a game-winning win over No. 22 Georgia Tech in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals.

Van Zyl also showcased his skills in the classroom at Clemson, earning a selection to the 2024 All-ACC Academic team following his sophomore career.

Prior to her two seasons at Clemson, she was South Africa’s top U18 junior after reaching a career-high ITF World Junior ranking of No. 125. She has won five ITF Junior singles titles and eight ITF Junior doubles titles in 2021 and 2022. During her preparation career in South Africa, van Zyl also reached the finals of the African Junior Championships in Tunisia and represented South Africa in Fed Cup competition in 2022.
