How to watch, betting odds for USA Basketball Showcase

Two of the biggest favorites to win gold this summer in men’s basketball will face off Wednesday in Las Vegas. Gonzaga men’s basketball head coach Mark Few will have conflicting emotions when he sees two of his former players compete against his own team.

Few, who is an assistant on the U.S. national team’s roster for the 2024 Olympic Games, got a taste of what it’s like to sit across from the former Bulldogs star at last summer’s FIBA World Cup, where the Americans advanced to the bronze medal game after a series of upsets that pitted them against Canadians and veteran Kelly Olynyk.

“It was weird when we played Kelly last year (in the bronze medal game at the FIBA World Cup),” Few said during media availability in June. “It was weird, you know, you’re rooting for him but then obviously you want to win the game really bad.”

Things could get even stranger with Andrew Nembhard on the roster. Both he and Olynyk were named to Team Canada’s final 12-man roster for the Paris Games, along with nine other NBA players, including All-NBA guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma City Thunder) and 2023 NBA champion Jamal Murray (Denver Nuggets). Dwight Powell (Dallas Mavericks), RJ Barrett (Toronto Raptors) and Lu Dort (Thunder) are all rejoining from last summer’s FIBA roster that carried Canada to its first Olympics in men’s basketball since 2000.

Canada, ranked 7th in the FIBA World Rankings, is expected to make a strong push for gold in Paris. After a warm-up match against Team USA, Team Canada (Group A) begins the group stage of Olympic basketball competition on July 27.

Team USA is the overwhelming favorite to win its fifth consecutive gold medal with a roster loaded with some of the NBA’s best players. LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant headline a roster that includes 10 NBA All-Stars and four former league MVPs.

The U.S. will play friendlies against Australia (Abu Dhabi, July 15), Serbia (July 17), South Sudan (July 20, London) and Germany (July 22) before the group stage begins against Serbia on July 28.

The Americans roster took a hit when Kawhi Leonard withdrew from USA Basketball early Wednesday, prompting Derrick White to fill in just a month after winning a championship with the Boston Celtics. Durant, Team USA’s all-time leading scorer at the Olympics, was ruled out against Team Canada because of calf soreness that limited him during training camp.

Even without their two superstars, Team USA is a double-digit favorite against Team Canada. Here’s how to watch the USA Basketball Show and the latest betting odds on
