In 2021, Tracy Cortez missed weight for her fight against Justine Kish. Other than missing weight, everything went according to plan. Cortez weighed in at around 126.5 pounds, and her opponent had calculated her weight perfectly. Despite the miss, the fight actually happened, and Kish suffered defeat at the hands of Cortez.

But despite the victory, Cortez had to pay a portion of his purse for the weight he missed. The Phoenix, Arizona native emphasized in a chat with the media that it was not his fault, “So I had lost 0.5 pounds and normally they would give us an hour to lose the weight but they wouldn’t let me. The doctor wouldn’t let me lose half a pound. He examined me and wouldn’t let me lose the rest of the weight. I could have lost it, I could have urinated but he wouldn’t let me.”
