Taylor Fritz speaks out about girlfriend Morgan Riddle’s Alexander Zverev controversy | Tennis | Sports

Taylor Fritz is speaking out after his girlfriend Morgan Riddle got into an online fight with Alexander Zverev.

The American triumphed over Zverev in their last 16 clash at Wimbledon, coming from two sets down to secure a sensational victory. Fritz was then beaten in the quarter-finals by Lorenzo Musetti.

Despite the impressive nature of Fritz’s comeback against Zverev, it was his girlfriend’s actions on social media that really dominated the post-match reaction. Riddle, who has over 500,000 followers, wrote on his Instagram story after the match: “When your man wins for the girls.”

He also shared a story from the pitch during the opening moments of the match with the caption: “Cheer up ladies.” After the match, Zverev criticized some players on Fritz’s team for being too vocal during the match, making it clear who he was targeting given that he had been praising the American coaches.

The posts were later deleted by Riddle and Fritz has now spoken out about the ‘noise’ that has been following him around for the past few days. He said: “I just blocked him.

“When I’m deep in a tournament like this, I try to stay off social media. There’s so many people messaging you and all that stuff. I just turn my phone off. That’s it.”

Riddle also released a statement after choosing to remove his posts, claiming that the uproar was simply a ‘misunderstanding.’ He wrote: “Regarding my stories from yesterday… I removed them as soon as I realized the misunderstanding and how overblown they were by the media.

“They’re not related to anything that happened off the tennis court and I don’t have any bad blood with anyone.
