Sourav Ganguly to attend Indian Racing Festival as Kolkata Royal Tigers team owner

The Indian Racing Festival, India’s premier motorsport event, is gearing up for its third season with a major boost: Former Indian cricket captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has become the owner of the Kolkata Royal Tigers Racing team ahead of the 2024 season. Created by Racing Promotions Pvt. Ltd., the Indian Racing Festival is designed to appeal to India’s growing motorsport fan base. The festival features two major championships: the Indian Racing League (IRL) and the Formula 4 Indian Championship (F4IC), promising an exciting season of high-speed action.

This year, eight city-based teams — Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Kochi and Ahmedabad — will compete from August to November. Kolkata is making its debut this year.


Affectionately known as the ‘Prince of Calcutta’ and ‘Dada’, Sourav Ganguly is a legendary figure in Indian cricket. His entry as the owner of Kolkata Royal Tigers heralds a new era of excitement and prestige for motor racing in West Bengal and Eastern India. Ganguly’s leadership is expected to significantly increase the popularity of the sport and transform Kolkata Royal Tigers into a formidable force in the Indian Racing Festival.

The former India cricket captain, who had an illustrious career representing India in 113 Tests and 311 ODIs, is known for his ability to nurture young talent and lead teams to victory. His involvement in the Festival of India Racing and his ownership of Indian Super League side ATK Mohun Bagan underscore his commitment to supporting the sport in India. He urged fans to come out in large numbers to watch the races and support the drivers, promising an exciting experience.
