Paula Findlay wins PTO Athlete of the Month award for historic bike/tri weekend double

Despite having decided to withdraw from the T100 London event in a few weeks (“no drama”, she wrote on Instagram – she just needs a break and to prepare for her upcoming wedding to Eric Lagerstrom), the Professional Triathletes’ Organization (PTO) recognized Canadian Paula Findlay’s incredible double-victory in Quebec last month and named her the PTO Athlete of the Month for June.

After winning his third consecutive national time trial title in St. Georges, Quebec on Friday, June 21, Findlay traveled to Mont-Tremblant, Quebec two days later to win the Ironman 70.3 Mont-Tremblant in impressive fashion.

Findlay’s weekend was complicated when his bike went missing en route to Montreal, but he found it just hours before the time trial and was able to race in the event. He survived the confusion and produced his highest power figures yet for the distance.

She then put in another dominant cycling performance in pouring rain in Mont-Tremblant, eventually securing a four-minute victory over fellow Canadian Tamara Jewett.

A panel of triathlon media including us Triathlon Magazine, Global Triathlon Network (GTN), & Triathlete From the shortlist of four athletes, votes were cast for 1, 2, and 3 – #1 was given 3 points, #2 was given 2 points, and #3 was given 1 point. Triathlon fans also voted via the PTO social media accounts.

Findlay edged out T100 San Francisco champion Taylor Knibb (USA) by one vote, with men’s T100 San Francisco champion Marten Van Riel coming in third.
