Michigan men’s basketball team adds 3 non-conference games to 2024-25 schedule

Michigan men’s basketball will begin a new era under head coach Dusty May on Nov. 4 when the Wolverines host Cleveland State in their 2024-25 season opener. Michigan’s season-opening opponent was one of three non-conference games announced by the school on Wednesday, with games against Purdue-Fort Wayne (Dec. 22) and Western Kentucky (Dec. 29) also added to the Wolverines’ upcoming season schedule.

In addition to the addition of these three non-conference games, it was also announced that UM will face Virginia Tech in the first round of the Fort Myers Tip-Off Tournament. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Monday, November 25. Following the match against the Hokies, Michigan will face either South Carolina or Xavier on Wednesday, depending on the outcome of their first-round games.

The program previously announced this offseason a two-year, neutral-site series with Wake Forest that will begin this fall. Michigan will travel to Greensboro, N.C., for the first matchup at Greensboro Coliseum on Nov. 10. Next year, the Wolverines will host Wake Forest at a neutral-site arena yet to be determined. Michigan also previously added a two-year home-and-away series with Texas Christian (TCU), the first of which will be played by the Wolverines on Nov. 15. Michigan will then travel to Fort Worth for the second half of the home-and-away series in 2025.

Michigan has two more non-conference games scheduled for the upcoming 2024-25 season. The Wolverines will take on Michigan State, Purdue and Rutgers both home and away in Big Ten play this season. The rest of Michigan’s conference opponents will only be played at home (Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Northwestern, Oregon, Penn State, Washington) or away (Indiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio State, UCLA, USC, Wisconsin). Dates and times for Big Ten play have not yet been announced.
